👋 Hi, I’m The Salsa Girl
Every week for a year, I’ll share a new homemade salsa recipe
I’ve loved salsa for as long as I can remember—and apparently, even before that.
My mom says she ate Mexican food nonstop while she was pregnant with me. And by the time I was two and a half, I was asking for my own bowl of salsa at restaurants. The first time I asked, the waiter looked at her like, “Is she serious?” She said, “Absolutely.”
Salsa has been a part of my life ever since.
I grew up in Texas, where Tex-Mex was a way of life and we’d eat it multiple times a week. Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of different salsas — which helped me learn what I like (and what I don’t). Whenever chips and salsa were on the menu, we ordered them. And of course, we were always full before our food arrived. It’s just that good.
We always had chips and salsa at home, too. And as a grown-up, I’m never without chips, salsa, and the fixings for quick microwave nachos. I’ve lived in Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, Arizona, and California — and through it all, my love for salsa has never faded. In fact, especially when I lived in places where good salsa was hard to find, I started making my own.
Every Thursday for the next year, I’m challenging myself to share a new homemade salsa recipe. At the time I’m writing this, I have no idea what all the recipes will be — but that’s part of the fun.
I hope you’ll join me on this ride, as I try to make 2½-year-old me proud.
